Jesse and Bev met in 1988 and married in 1991. In 1996, Jess was given the opportunity to attend the School of Ministry at Calvary Albuquerque. On completion of the school, the students participated in an international mission outreach in Jinja, Uganda. While there, Jess and Bev were given the opportunity to share the gospel of Christ in the local prisons. Through obvious acts of the Lord, they were able to leave their jobs and home and move to Uganda to serve under the leadership of Pastor Jay and Sunny McLaughlin, the founders of the original Calvary Chapel Jinja. They arrived in February 1998
In 2003, Jess took over the leadership of the original Calvary Chapel Jinja (recently renamed The Bridge Calvary Chapel in Jinja) by serving as the Senior Pastor and heading up and teaching at the Jinja church’s School of Ministry. Our dear brother Jesse Rich went home to be with the Lord on December 18, 2014. The loss for the family and friends is enormous, so please keep this in your prayers. Jesse’s wish was that his remains would stay in Uganda, and more than a thousand people came for his memorial from all areas where he served. In addition to Beverly’s daily responsibilities, which include teaching at the women's ministries in the prisons, the villages, and The Bridge Calvary Chapel, she also trains and mentors the women on the Called Christians/The Bridge Calvary Chapel staff and helps lead them to maturity in the Word, so they can become women of God. Her leadership and continuing devotion to the Lord’s work and the people of Uganda during this time of transition shows love for the people of Africa and dedication to the work that Jesse and Bev invested their lives into.

The Shockeys serve in Juarez, Mexico, where they equip God’s people to go and share the gospel of Jesus Christ. The couple founded Servant Senders in March 2006 in collaboration with their home church, Rocky Mountain Calvary Chapel of Colorado Springs. Today, the ministry is threefold: training Mexican men to serve in Christian leadership, reaching out to the children and widows of Juarez, and providing opportunities for American teams to get involved in hands-on ministry.

God called our family to Madrid in 2010 with the vision of planting a church in the city of Madrid. God included in that vision that the first church would plant other churches. Last November we celebrated 6 years as a church in Madrid. God has grown the church to approximately 80 people, give or take. We are focused on teaching the Word verse by verse, discipleship, and leadership training. We’ve seen God do so much, from saving people to bringing believers from all over the world to become a part of our family and get a foundation in the Word. We see the Word of God doing an amazing work, and we see people being freed from legalistic churches through the Gospel and God’s grace. People are joyful to learn and serve.
Our family of 5 took a much-needed sabbatical last summer, from May 8 - September 8. This was such a rich and restful time. Since we’ve been back, we’ve been busier than ever. We have a new church plant in a city just outside Madrid called Galapagar. The group that is planting the church wanted some leadership and ministry training. I planned to start a “Ministers in Training” course that my pastor did with a group in California. What was supposed to be 5 people has swelled to a group of almost 15, including people from our church. We’re doing a discipleship class on Wednesday nights and it has been so fruitful for the people that come. God is bringing other church planters into our sphere that are planting in Madrid and Sevilla, Spain, as well as other cities in Europe. I am also getting more involved with a Tim Keller ministry called CITY TO CITY, which focuses on training church planters in ministry contextualization and Gospel-centeredness. This ministry is working throughout the world and I have the privilege of working with the Western European group. Our church hosted an intensive training for CTCE in October, where there were church planters from Hamburg, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Budapest, Madrid, just to name a few.
We have our youngest child, Bristol, in 5th grade. My son Samuel is in 7th and my oldest daughter Isabelle is in 9th grade. Although the ministry is our calling, and it is something that we are excited about, we know the most important call is marriage and family. We are continually dedicated and focused on enjoying Jesus, enjoying marriage and being a couple, and investing in and discipling our beautiful kids.
We’ve been in Spain since January 2015. It has been a long and sometimes very difficult journey. But it has also been a joyful and fruitful journey. We are thrilled by God’s faithfulness and the work He has already done, and we are even more thrilled to be at this point in the adventure and about what God is continuing to do and will do in the future.
Thanks so much for entering into this adventure alongside us. We are the body of Christ that is working together to shine Jesus all over the world.
